sponsored by Southwest Gastroenterologists
Formed in 2015 by longtime friends and colleagues, the trio comprising bassist Jon Gagan, pianist Kirk Kadish, and drummer John Bartlit makes their debut at Outpost this summer! Their debut CD, Still Here, a collection of original compositions won Best Jazz CD at the 2016 New Mexico Music Awards and they have been featured at GiG Performance Space, opened for jazz legend Charles McPherson at the Jazz Under the Stars series, and appeared twice at Glen and Bev Salas’ House Concert series. From her gospel music roots in her father’s church to her stint traveling the world as a background singer for world-renowned R & B vocalist Gladys Knight, Toni Morgan has been using her soul-filled powerful voice and her authentic crowd pleasing combination of jazz, gospel, soul and R&B to heal and thrill audiences in the United States and abroad for decades. Since leaving the fulltime touring industry, she has been active in the New Mexico music scene performing in churches and other venues throughout the state, and in 2015 she won the NM’s Gospel Best award. Morgan’s band, Soulful Sounds always features a variety of great players. Tonight it’s Ray Sealy, keyboards; Howard Cloud, bass; Shawn Pitts, drums; and guitarist TBA.
