Upper Purgatory Creek Trail
is part of a trail system which surrounds San Marcos,Texas. It is under the auspices of the San Marcos Greenbelt Alliance and the City of San Marcos. This trail will be 4.5 miles. We will do a loop.
The trail is very rocky in parts. Mostly level. A few climbs along the way. But nothing serious. There are no bathrooms, no water.
Since the path is very rocky, we will not be doing a fast walk. The path is largely shady but with a few areas of sun. You will see the rugged terrain of this part of the hill country. The trail is home to Golden Cheek Warblers.
Bring water. Hiking stick/s recommended. There are no benches for resting . The hike will take approximately 1 1/2 hour.
Dogs are allowed on leash.
You will be required to sign a liability form at the start of the hike.
Carpooling from Austin is strongly encouraged. The starting point is approximately an hour from Central Austin.

Please consider a donation to the Sierra Club which offers hikes and outings such as this.
After the hike, there are several options for lunch in the city of San Marcos. 10 mins away from trailhead.
